Conveners: K. Hirose,  D. Yuen, T. Lay, M. Kameyama
Title:
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON THE POST-PEROVSKITE PHASE TRANSITION IN THE EARTH'S DEEP MANTL

The post-perovskite phase transition, which is likely to occur in the deep lower mantle was discovered by experiments in Japan less than 2 years ago. Since that time rapid developments in mineral physics, seismology and geodynamics have taken place, and a genuine revolution in our understanding of the lower mantle and its dynamics is developing. The urgency for an interdisciplinary workshop is mounting to bring researchers together for in-depth discussions and multidisciplinary communications about advances in this rapidly evolving topic. A two-day workshop will strive to stimulate further work in this burgeoning area, which has broad implications for Earth and Material Sciences.

We invite papers on the early history of the Earth and planets - spanning topics from the solar nebula to the birth of primitive life - with a special emphasis on the conditions that gave rise to life on our planet. Papers from diverse research fields, including astronomy, planetary science, high-P experiments, geochemistry, geology, and life and environmental sciences are anticipated.
